CNC Surfacing Project

We love tackling new projects for local clients that involve our CNC machine we lovingly refer to as Robo Billy. He spends many days idle since we are dedicated to handcrafting our products so this project was a perfect opportunity to let him shine and do what he does best . . . Time consuming repetitive tasks.

A good friend and local client brought in this very large Black Walnut and Epoxy table top with the hopes that we could surface both sides to produce a perfectly flat table top surface for them. Robo Billy was up to the task! Repeated passes with a 1/2 bit with minimal depth increases to preserve the thickness of the table top was right up his alley.

While impressive to watch at 120x speed, in actuality surfacing a large area is extremely boring. The result however was a perfectly flat tabletop that was ready to be sanded down to a 1000 grit glossy shine on the epoxy and ready for table leg hardware.

We enjoyed putting Robo Billy through the paces and we will update this post with pictures of the finished product once completed.
